Harley-Davidson Custom Motorcycles
A custom bike comes with different changes to a standard model built by the big manufacturers. Such machines may be unique or made in limited edition. Among other manufacturers, Harley-Davidson is known as one of the most successful makers of customized bikes.
A Brief History
Since the very beginning of the motorcycle era, owners tried to make their machines unique, but they started being called “custom” only in the late 1950s. Harley-Davidson was one of the manufactures that started using this term in the name of their models. The Super Glide produced in 1971 became the first factory customized machine that combined elements from a Sportster and Electra Glide. The V-Rod motorcycles by Harley-Davidson have often been an object for customization for individuals and workshops.
In 1974, the company released the FXE version, and in three years, the manufacturer showed the world the FXS Low Rider. In the end of 1970’s, the FXEF Fat Bob saw the light, and soon, the company introduced the all-black FXB Sturgis as well as FXWG Wide Glide.
In 1982, Harley-Davidson announced the production of The FXR Super Glide II, and within the next years, the lineup was added with the FXRS Low Glide along with the FXRT Sport Glide. Super Glide motorcycles produced during 1991-2017 came with the Dyna chassis, and since 2018, the machines were equipped with the Softail frame.
Today, it is known that the manufacturer is planning on introducing the Future Custom Model in 2021.
