Started in 1934 by Hans Trunkenpolz, the company KTM came up with their first motorcycle R100 in 1951 powered by a 98 cm3 engine.
Their first engine with a volume of 125 cm3 appeared in 1976.
In 1986, KTM turned out to be the first motorcycle manufacturer to use disc brakes on front-end bikes both on front and rear wheels.

In 1998, the PDS Linkless rear suspension system was introduced.

In 2007, the LC4 engine was rolled out. The motor is equipped with fuel injection and a balancing shaft. The powerplant gained the title of the most powerful serial single-cylinder motorcycle engine in the world.
